   Sorry to be a boring and annoying pillock, but it is ‘Facebook’, not with a capital B. I don’t know why the hell I feel compelled to pedantically point that out, but apparently I do.

   Pardon the Yank ignorance (and the lag time) … but what is a “greenie”?

   If I had to guess, it’d be an environmentalist. Here in the States, however, it could mean several different things, each with its own group of visceral opponents.

   (Nice site, btw. I found it in a search, trying to setup WordPress on my macbook for development.)

   You guessed right. There is also a political party called “The Greens” and in Australia the greenie protester types (the ones who throw themselves under bulldozers) and that political party tend to get conflated into one, which is not the case.

   Most of the hating on greenies in Australia emanates from Tasmania where logging represents a large part of the economy in what is a very small state by population (just take a look at Tasmanian wilderness areas in Google Maps satellite view to get an idea of the scale of logging). Some people there are threatened by the potential for job loss from disruption to that industry, environmentalists are inevitably demonised and this sort of tripe springs up on FaceBook. I scour for them occasionally and if they are outside FaceBook’s terms of service with regards to inciting violence (and they usually are) I report them for removal. I don’t think this group is still there for example.
